Databases: the foundation for data-driven working
Without a well-configured database, the foundation is missing. C-data helps with setting up, optimising and managing databases, tailored to the purpose for which the data is used.
Our approach
The right database for the right use case
C-data helps organisations with full lifecycle management of databases. We are not tied to a single vendor and always advise based on the use case, the data architecture and the needs of the organisation.
Depending on the use case, we distinguish four types of data environments: operational databases, data warehouses, data lakes and analytical databases. Each type places different demands on performance, scalability and governance.
- Advice on database choice and architecture
- Design and set-up of data warehouses, data lakes and analytical databases
- Optimisation of performance, costs and manageability
- Migrations, management and SQL training

Four types of data environments
Each type has different requirements
Choosing the right type of database determines the performance, scalability and manageability of your data landscape.
Operational
Operational databases
Support primary business processes and applications. Optimised for processing many small transactions quickly and reliably. Consistency and availability are crucial. Often the source for other data environments.
Analytical
Data warehouses
Intended for structured, reliable reporting and analysis. Data is brought together from multiple sources, cleansed and stored historically. Ideal for BI, dashboards and management reporting. There is one version of the truth.
Flexible
Data lakes
For storing large volumes of (semi-)structured and unstructured data. They offer a lot of flexibility and allow data to be structured later. Often the basis for data science, machine learning and AI.
Performance
Analytical databases
Optimised for fast, complex queries on large datasets. Used for interactive analysis and performance-intensive workloads. Fed from a data warehouse or data lake. Response time and scalability are essential.
Our areas of expertise
Databases we work with a lot
C-data has hands-on experience with a wide range of database platforms. We always advise independently, based on your situation.
Analytical database
Exasol
Powerful in-memory analytical database for extremely fast analysis on large datasets. Parallel processing and columnar storage make Exasol ideal for near-real-time dashboards and performance-critical BI environments.
In-memoryColumnarBI
Relational database
Microsoft SQL Server
Versatile and reliable relational database, popular as an operational database, data warehouse and analytical environment. Strong integration within the Microsoft ecosystem. C-data helps with design, migration, performance tuning and management.

Open-source database
MariaDB
Open-source database suitable for both transactional and analytical workloads. Popular with organisations that prefer open source or sovereign solutions without vendor lock-in. C-data supports set-up, scalability and management.

Open-source database
PostgreSQL
Robust open-source database with strong analytical capabilities, extensive extensions and good GIS support. Versatile and actively maintained by a large community.

Cloud data warehouse
Snowflake
Cloud-based data warehouse with strong scalability and easy management. Separates storage and compute for flexible use. Suitable for organisations that want to scale quickly without infrastructure worries.

Analytics platform
Azure Synapse / BigQuery
Cloud analytics platforms for large-scale data analysis. Azure Synapse integrates seamlessly within Microsoft Azure; BigQuery is Google's serverless solution for petabyte-scale analysis.
